Ventura, Ventura County
Mission San Buenaventura was founded on March 31, 1782, the ninth California mission and the last one established by Junipero Serra. The stone and adobe church still stands on Main Street in downtown Ventura and has an active parish. The official name of the city remains San Buenaventura, shortened by nearly everyone to Ventura.
